This two-day programme for education leaders is designed and led in collaboration with Citizens UK and explores how education organisations can use community organising techniques to empower pupils, staff, families and the community.  It explores models of community organising that can help shape curriculum, pedagogies, governance, and community participation.

Participants will explore:

– how community listening activities can engage and empower stakeholders

– how power works and the best ways to harness it to enable community change

– how community organising strategies can be built into the curriculum enabling pupil agency

Fiona Carrick-Davies has been the Family Worker at Surrey Square Primary School since 2002, working with whole families to address some of the inequalities and challenges they face. Matt Morden, is co-headteacher at Surrey Square Primary. The school, its pupils and families have led several successful community campaigns to improve local lives and has now set up the Old Kent Road Family Zone, a collective of local organisations supporting local citizens. Seb Chapleau is Assistant Director of Citizens UK. Sebastien was headteacher of La Fontaine Academy between 2014-2020, establishing a thriving community school focused on ensuring that pupils, families, staff and neighbours work together to take responsibility for the wellbeing of their neighbourhood.
