There are lots of important decisions a school leader needs to make, however, one of the most important choices to be made is the content of the curriculum. What students will be exposed to in your school is fundamental to their development and will shape how they view and interact with society for the rest of their lives. Of course, is it not only what is in the curriculum, but how this is delivered. A great school will pair thoughtful curriculum design with appropriate pedagogy.
We believe that the current paradigm of both curriculum and associated pedagogy needs to be rethought. We need to offer a Big Education – an innovative curriculum with dynamic pedagogical approaches – if we are to prepare students to not only face the challenges of the future, but also be agents of change in their communities.
The video below sets this out in more detail.
In this session, we will explore how we make this shift in practice in our schools. We will explore a framework for auditing our current provision as well as exploring in more detail how we have designed a curriculum of the head, heart and hand at School 21.
But, before we go any further, we would like to ‘connect’ in our community space. We would like you to introduce yourself and find out a bit more about why you signed up for this course. We would also like you to share your thoughts on our A-B video above.
You can access the community discussion board here.
